Download stats4ROI!

Easier Installation for Windows!

You can now download a stand-alone or portable app that runs in Windows 10 and 11 64-bit.

For the standalone app, just click the button to download the zip file, unzip it somewhere, and double-click to run roistat.exe. It will take some time to install what it needs, but will only do this once. This will run in a window like any other program.

For the portable app, there is no installation step. Just download the zip file, unzip it and double click on stat4ROI. It will open in your browser.

Either way, you don't have to deal with any of the steps below and it should just work!

If you don't use Windows, or you just want to run the app within R, the steps to do that are below!

How to Install stats4ROI with R (Now Easier with Version 4!)

01

Download R for your operating system

  • Click on "download R"
  • Select a geographic area near you
  • Select the version of R for your operating system
  • Double-click to install
02

Optional (But Easier) Download RStudio

RStudio makes it easier to use R, but you don't need it to run the app. If you don't want to use RStudio, jump to item 5. Otherwise:

03

Install RTools / Mac Packages

  • Windows
  • Mac is a little more complicated. The easiest route is to just use Posit Cloud and run the app in the cloud. If you want the app installed locally, follow these steps. You only have to do this once:
    • Install Xcode from the Mac App Store
    • Visit https://github.com/fxcoudert/gfortran-for-macOS/releases
      • Download and install the appropriate gfortran for your operating system
    • Open RStudio
      • Install the following packages by typing these in the RStudio console one by one and accepting all updates and changes:
        • install.packages("devtools")
07

Download stats4ROI

  • DISCLAIMER: stat4ROI is a GUI that presents an easy way to access a few R packages created and administered by other developers. We have little to no control over these packages, therefore we can offer no warranty as to stat4ROI's fitness for your data analysis. Every effort has been made to check stat4ROI's results, but if a developer were to change a calculation or format without our knowledge, inaccurate results could occur.
  • By clicking on the download button below, you acknowledge this as a precondition to using the GUI.
04

Unzip the Package Someplace Convenient for You

05

Open RStudio or RGui

06

Install Necessary Packages

  • Open install_dependencies in RGui or RStudio
  • RGui
    • Click and drag install_dependencies.R into the window. This should automatically start the installation.
  • RStudio
    • Double-click on install_dependencies.R or open it in RStudio. Click "Source" in the upper right of the main window.
  • Wait for a bit as the various packages and their dependencies are installed.
  • If prompted, hit the enter key to add or update all the components.
  • You can watch a video of what this looks like.
07

Close and Restart RStudio

08

Start the stats4ROI app

  • Unzip the file you downloaded to someplace convenient for you
  • Open RStudio if you installed it. Otherwise, jump to item 9 below.
  • Select File | Open
  • Navigate to where you unzipped the stats4ROI file
  • Open stats4ROI_mod.R
  • You will see a bunch of code load. This is what makes the UI and the server code for stats4ROI work
  • To start the app, click on the green arrow above and to the right of the code window
  • You can watch a video of what this looks like.

Two Ways to Run From Now On

  • The easiest way is to just open RStudio if you installed it and run the app every time. You don't need to know a line of code to use R!
  • You can run the app directly from RGui, which was installed when you installed R.
    • Start RGui
    • Load the app package by typing
      • require(shiny)
    • Type runApp with the path to the folder where the app is stored. Use / rather than \ in the path name. For example:
      • runApp('C:/Path/To/Folder/stats4ROI_mod.R')
    • stats4ROI will automatically start in your default browser.
    • You can watch a video to see how that looks.

Updating R and Its Packages

Development continues on R, RStudio, and the various packages that are used as part of stats4ROI. You will occasionally need to update one or more of these. Professor Wendy Martin has created simple guides to follow so that you can keep your working environment up to date.

  1. Updating R version - please plan on at least one hour for this process.

  2. Updating packages - this process is a bit shorter but dependent on how many packages you have installed.
